Would pounding shims in between the sheet metal and stand cause any flex or problems I should be aware of ? And how far down should I drain the tank ?

ive used shims under my stands before with no ill effects. thats not to say that after years and years the stand wont sag, but mine havent yet. i have an old house, so most floors have settled in pretty well. my goldfish tank is the worst and has been shimmed with cardboard under 2 corners for the last 2 years to make up close to 1/2" height difference

if you can get shims and metal under there without having to move or drain your tank, go for it. otherwise, to ease the weight, i would drain as much as possible so you can life a side up while you or someone else slides under what needs to be.

All good input. I went in with my rents to get this house about 4 years ago. Its 19 years old. Ive owned it for 3 years. There was no disclosure on the sale about this happening. I do heating ventilation air conditioning and custom sheet metal/ copper work for a living. I can do alot of the things mentioned. I already ran all the downspouts from their new copper gutter into underground pipes that drain out to the street and im working on doing some more drainage work. I DIY all my house work with my brother and were always busy. I was advised when I inquired 2 years ago about the disclosures by my real estate attorney that going after the realtor wouldnt help. So im kinda stuck with it sadly. But it is a nice house inside.
19 years old? thats still pretty new for all the problems you're having.

yes it is . Thanks for staying on topic Ikeeppacu ! And others :)

On a side note, your stand looks like one of the regular pressboard varieties. When you are shimming use more shims to distribute the weight and help the stand from flexing on the joints ect.

the above poster has a good point i honestly never thought of

to minimize any future issues with the stand sagging, try to decrease the size of the shims as you get closer to the side on the floor, so that something is supporting the stand in as many areas as possible
