Welcome,I would put at six with plenty of hiding caves or flower pots or whatever!

You can try six, but I'd bet on it going down to 4 fairly quickly if they're fully grown. I'd say four would be your safe max without deaths. Get two pairs, I would, 2m/2f.

Just six? ahh man. what male/female ratio?

I'm not an expert, but my understanding about cons. is that they breed pretty easily.

Maybe I should tell you guys what I had in mind and you tell me if this it'll work. I was thinking about getting 2 males and 5 females from lfs all 2''. Grow them out in that tank to about 4" then leave the two proven pairs in that tank and move the other 3 famales to a big semi-aggresive community tank I'll be buying for my moms living room for her for christmas. I spend alot of time over there(she lives next door, and she cooks every day). Can't fit a big tank in my room with my 55 so why not use her living room. I'm buy her a Christmas present and I get my 125g KINGDOM!!
Kills two birds with one stone, SWEET!!!!!:headbang2

I wouldn't even bother with convicts in a 55g, breed something cool. Convicts are too easy.. I just had my first batch of fry ever like a week ago. Today is the second night they've been swimming around their tank. It's really awesome and exciting but after they bred once I don't really want them to breed again.

I had a pair for about 30 months that were the same sex. I bought a baby like 2 weeks ago and it must have taken him about 2 days before him and one of my old cons had their fry. It's ridiculous how fast they bred. Kind of scary wondering what I am going to do with all of these.. I'd rather not just give them away to my crappy LFS but I guess I'd rather do that than use them as feeders.. :-/

Buy 1 male and 1 female. Soon enough you will have more "pairs" than you will know what to do with.
