Hi mfk,

My gt and I are having a hard time winning against this HITH disease.

We first tried a 5 day treatment of soaked food with Epson salt. That didn't work as symptoms persist.

Next was a 3 day treatment with new life spectrum hex shield. As prescribed on the label. Still no success.

Follow up my the most recent 7 day treatment using new life spectrum hex shield, which ended about 3 weeks ago.

I really thought we have it beat and the small hole looking to be filling in but as of last night the hole is now slightly bigger and deeper..

During the past months I have ensured nitrates never got higher than 5 ppm. My gt is full of life and still eating, color is on point. He does have the occasional white/clear poop and you can catch his rubbing on the substrate randomly. Lastly the hole is present and while it's really small it's definitely not going away as I initially thought.

Or here I sit not knowing what to do next. How can I beat this damn this for me and my pet?

Please help.

I kind of feel like maybe I should try again with the hex shield for a 2 or 3 week treatment period. Maybe he didn't consume enough of the medicated food the first 2 times I tried.

I don't know what else to do at this point. I feel like leaving it alone will only allow the disease to spread and Kai will stop eating then we will be in a big mess.

I would of thought new holes would be appearing during this time but they haven't, which I find odd.

Looking for any advice here.

Thanks.

I've used waterlife octozin with success, UK eBay has it.

This company is selling waterlife product on Canadian eBay, maybe a message or two could hook you up?

The wound has most likely now become a bacertial infection - you need to treat the wound with antibacterial meds.

Cool videos RD. RD. Interesting to see this from a veterinarian perspective. Some comments:

-The gram staining procedure used is likely to result in cross contamination between samples. Very sloppy methodology. He talks like he's avoiding it by letting it dry, but he's not. It not that much harder to do a proper wet mount and wick the stains through. He's doing this for speed of course, I just don't like it because it is not as accurate. If he re-uses those cups of stain for other patients (fish from other tanks), it's a joke.

-He doesn't discuss why he actually is doing the staining. He's checking to see whether he has gram negative or gram positive bacteria. The result was gram positive bacteria. This is important because it helps him choose the best anti-biotic.

-Impressive recovery! Very cool to see the new tissue fill in so well. Vitamin C....... interesting.

-The diagnosis of fish TB was made using histological slides from a pathological investigation of a dead fish(es). That is, this fish had to be dead for him to make this final diagnosis. He says all three of the other oscars had fish TB. That means that the 4th surviving fish is likely now a carrier of fish TB. "No big deal, just don't put your hand in the tank with a cut". Really? REALLY............. SMH.
