exactly. i think the overall point here is NOT to keep plecos with gars, which has been stated many times. those who do keep plecos with gars MIGHT get away with it for a while, but really they are just running an unnecessarily high risk of losing or causing permanent damage to their gars--

[N-E Cichlids]

I had 3 FL Gars here a month ago. Same thing happened to them. They were in a tank by themselves. No other fish including Plecos. One day they got this white film over their body and it started to peel like if you were to get a sunburn and then peel. Knowing that gars are sensitive to meds, I pumped the Temp up to 88 degrees and added salt. @ days later they were back to normal with no problems.
