:( My eheim impeller broke and the stress of no filter has caused some ick on my bala sharks but this tank also has a 4" Indo in it, how do i treat the tank

The stock is as follows:
Indo tiger
Fire eel
stunted spotted gar
spotted pim
long tail antenna , unknown species
unknown river goby from vanuatu
congo tetras
african butterfly
threadfin acaras
bnose plecos
black ghost knifefish
male kribs
bala sharks

FYI they all get on fine

how much salt would you do and what temp? can it be killed by the heat alone as id rather not have salt in the tank permenantly

turn the heat up to 85 and use 2 TEASPOONS of salt per gallon. Also remember to use FRESHWATER AQUARIUM SALT not table salt, not saltwater salt but Freshwater salt. http://www.petsolutions.com/default.aspx?ItemId=17101106&EID=NX17101106&SID=NXTG

Treat for 10 days and if they are not better then just extend the treatment and turn the temp up a little.

Also make sure you have enough oxygen in the tank or the fish will die as soon as you turn the hear up because more heat= less oxygen. Get a new filter ASAP.

I have the api aquarium salt that says 1 tbsp for every 5 gallons would that be ok

The 1 tablespoon for every 5 gallons is the suggestion for overall fish health, not for treating disease such as ich. That will not be sufficient.

When I treat ich, I raise the temp to 84 and I put in 4 tablespoons of salt for every 5 gallons- slowly over at least a 24 hour period.

has anyone already done this that has dats? cos i would like to know the amount of salt used for dats that survived

for my 55g i added the 2 teaspoons per gallon and had the temps in the high 80s for almost 2 weeks. all my fish, even the dat, seemed to love the higher temps and salt, and even showed more color.

I only use a tablespoon of salt per 10g. I do this on a regular basis for almost 7 years. Dats can withstand high heat. I've had a heater malfunction on me and my tank temp was at a 100 degrees, all my 6" kuhlii's died and lost a 7" archer but the dats were swimming around like normal. 84-85 would be best for the heater. Besides salt, I've had great results with copper sulfate(coppersafe, aquarisol) to treat ich and prevent it. This is also good for scaleless or sensitive fish.
