Recently bought 2 jack dempsies male and female i think and one of them keeps chasing the other around the tank, is this normal?? or spawning behaviour??

They wont kill each other will they??

Heres a pic of them before fighting

Jack Dempsey Pair.jpg

one on the right is female, the one on left looks to be male. i think the male might be too small for the female and she is just being dominant:) try dividing them for a few days allowing them to stake some territory and get comfortable then pull the divider.

what should use a divider?? are you certain they are male and female?? what if there both males??

thanks

You have a male and a female
Dividers best from plastic drill holes or get egg crate

You can go to home depot or a hardware store and look for egg crate material in the lighting department. its really cheap. then cut it out to fit inside the tank and i use zip ties and suction cups to hold in place:)

Good so i have a male and a female :) will they breed do you think?? how long untill they are sexually mature?? the chasing and fighting has stops now i cant get my head around it, it didnt look like a vicious fight or anything

cheers for all the info people
