Hey sorry im brand new , got referred by a friend to join this forum. I have a 30gal tank 2 EBJD less than a year old just got them about a week ago, and 3 clown louches relatively the same age. 1 of the EBJD is only breathing through 1 gill (1 gill seems clamped) and he is kinda just hiding in a cave. I did see some Ick the other day and started treating the tank, temp is at 82/84 right now, most of the Ick bumps are gone. Could it just be bc of the ick? He is starting to look better but im scared. I got my water tested the day before i got the fish(long story) but everything was normal (i dont remember the exact numbers) i understand i need to get my own testing kits. As im typing this, the fish came out and now the gills are both moving, so im kind of confused

Get a bottle of distilled water to rinse the test vials in after each use.

The Nitrates test is two different bottles. The 2nd bottle needs to be literally beaten to death, put it in a paint can shaker, to make its thoroughly shaken up to get a correct reading.
With a cycled tank you will always have nitrates, so if you get a zero reading you didn't shake it enough. I learned that one the hard way.

Is the nitrates test part of the API test? Or do i need to go buy that too?

Wow, nice template! GL on fish!

Do the clown loaches have Ich/white spots?

Thanks! And no, Just the one JD had like 3 on his head and the other had one or two on his fins. The loaches are clean as of right now. Last night i found the spots and freaked out bc i just had another tank that had an outbreak(my first time dealing with it) and lost all my fish. A friend said to slowly increase water temp to 86ish. And do 50% water change every other day. Hes from canada and apparently they dont have access to fish medication, and he said to do 1tbsp of freshwater salt per gallon so i have room to increase dose. I dont have the salt yet, but i did a 50% change and the temp is 83ish. And the bumps r going away.

Also if anyone can recommend a filter setup? I have a HOB filter frim aquafin it uses a carbon filter, w a blue plastic piece with holes. Someone said that i should change to a sponge, and lava rocks, and eventually add quilt batting to make the water crystal clear. Any reccomendations?

I’d get going on the ICH protocol if that’s what you have on your hands...

Put Ich treatment into the search function or I’m sure there is a sticky in this section.

Add salt per instructions / raise temp
