Try zucchini aswell.

Or if you can get some protein pellets. Just make sure you have wood in the tank if you feed straight protein.
 
In my experience, If the Pleco have tasted and tried the slime of your GG, they will do it again, no matter what food you offer, my suggestion would be to separate your pleco permanently.
 
yup, you gotta seperate cause it will be like the terminator, and will never stop. if its a royal, it does need the bogwood, and feed it lots of greens, on top of what people said you would use broccolli or zucchinni or even lettuce. they do need some protein in the diet as really all plecos are omnivorous so you could put in catfish pellets or pieces of prawn etc
 
I have a CAE that did this to a Dwarf Gourami. The Gourami would get pissed and hold its own for awhile, but the algae eater was relentless. I had to move it to another tank. So plecos aren't the only culprits.
