First off i think i may have the dreaded ich in my tank. Both of my clown loaches (my favorite fish in the tank) have white spots that look like small white balls all over them and i think its ich, none of the other fish have it except one of my balas has a couple ruff looking scales.

Well, i have looked at a few websites and i found a few different things i am going to the LFS tomorrow to get some ich medication but one website said i should treat the fish with it every couple days doing a 50% water change before hand. What should i do? im so scared of loosing my purty Loaches let alone the whole tank!

(i would post pics of the spot thingys but my camera sucks)

loaches' skin is more sensitive to medication and salt than most fish. definately get an expert opinion.

sorry I can't help any more than that.

Raise your temp to 84 and add 4 tablespoons of salt for every 5 gallons over a period of 24 hours or so. Don't do meds, and don't do a water change unless your parameters become unhealthy. After all signs of ich have been gone for 3 days, do a water change.

I have done this same treatment with clown loaches several times and was always successful.

^^^^

angler's advice is spot on!!! a week after do water changes regularly for a few days. loaches are sensitive to salt, but this amount is fine.

ich doesn't thrive as well in warmer water and can't tolerate the salt. also, the salt helps de-stress and heal the fish after

it shouldnt, but if you're that worried you can do 80ish, what's your regular tank temp? definitely needs to be relatively high to kill the ich off for now

i allready have 1tblspoon per 5, and the 84 wont harm any of the fish in my tank?

84 will be fine for your fish. Go ahead and add more salt as suggested too because Ich can kill Clown Loaches pretty quickly.

yeah i knew Loaches were scaleless fish and were more sensitive to meds but its around 75, is that to low?

that's a good regular temp, but not for curing ich. the warmer the water the better, obviously not to the point where you're cooking the fish lol =P

Didnt meen to Question you Angler, Thank you very much both of you for the help, i set the heater to 79 and added about 10 tblspoons of salt, ill raise it again and add more salt tomorrow morning when i wake up for work. You people are awsome, im so gald i found this website, and i love the clown loaches to death i hope they pull through this well!!!

Thanks again
