Help plugging overflows?

Haha yeah it's just in the back of my mind.

So do I have to do my own PVC work with a sump?

And a 200 gallon tank... what size wet dry and pump would I be looking for?

Aim for about 1/4 to 1/3 of your tank volume. Some go as low as 1/5 but bigger is better in most cases. And yeah, your own PVC work. PVC is pretty easy actually. Flex uses clamps. Rigid uses glue. Thread tape for anything threaded.
 
So a 50 gallon wet dry? Or 1/3... 67 gallon? And I don't think the pvc would be too bad.

What do you think a wet dry and the plumbing would run me on a set up like this?
 
or you can just extend a pvc pipe above the tank level if you don't have a plug.

55 - 60 gal should be just right for a sump or WD. plumbing should be less than 40 dollars (to plumb my 130 gal [30 gal sump] it was 25 dollars for all the pvc and connectors) as for WD not sure, if your going to make your own, you can probably find a good deal on a used tank on craigslist. pump, media and heaters probably going to be the more expensive parts.

It really depends on wether you want to go in line or submersible. Typically inlines can move more water with bigger models but you will have to drill your sump to plumb it. I'm setting up a 300 in about a month and I'll be using 2 quiet one 6000's for pumps. 6' head each will output around 1000 gph. They cost about $120. I chose to go submersible with a pair to eliminate drilling the sump and for redundancy since I'm running no other filtration.

If were to setup up a 200 the way I'm doing my 300 I'd probably chose a pair of q1 4000's. About $100 each. Danner makes a line of Magdrives that are good as well. If you choose in line, Reeflos are hard to beat but they can get expensive. Personally I just don't like depending on a single pump to run a system. If you have two and one were to fail, your tank can still function
