I agree ... borrowed time. the eater may not show any interest in the eatee until the last notice.
One day i thought that my rtcs and gars lost interest in feeders (tilapia, carps etc) cause there were lots accumulating (and growing to decent sizes after couple of months) .... the next day (today), ALL are gone.
Clown Loaches are masters of hiding if theres a place they can fit they will find it. I remember frantically tearing apart my tanks a few times only to find em burrowed in some tight spot

One of mine did jump once. I took the water level down and proceeded to tear the tank apart. Then I heard a gurgling splashing noise in the HOB filter. He somehow jumped the little gap in my glass canopy into my filter behind the pad. That was really irritating, but I couldn't help but laugh. A little.
