I have read a few of those articles but there more for new tanks with new filtration. Mine is none of the neither. The filters supported those minnows fine till I took them out. I'm wondering if the sand killed the bluegill and catfish. I guess it could be a number of things but that's the first thingthat came to mind

didn't sound like a mature system (?) and you already said you rinsed the filters, which could have a negative impact on the bacteria that supports your nitrogen cycle

also, comparing minnows to catfish and bluegills might not be a fair comparison . . .

Heah I rinsed them a little. Figured I needed to. There had been some smaller fish get sucked up the filter and get cut up. So I was trying to wash there guts and stuff off my filters. Leason learned. I'm going to buy a test kit today and set up that clear rubbermaid tote using my lights and filter or maybe both filters from the leaky tank. Hopefully everything will look good within a few days and I can pick up that TSN cat I found locally. If the tote doesn't seem to be working then I guess ill be passing him up. I'm so pissed about the tank leaking. I dunno how to fix it so I'm selling it I guess. Found a couple 200 gallons for 50 a pc. And dude has 40 more tanks. So I'm going to check his stuff out and pickup one or 2 from him. He did tell me that the sand I used is probably what killed the fish tho. I didn't know I had to rinse it over and over. I just put it in and he said the so called "clean" play sand has **** in it to kill fungus etc...oh well. Leason learnt.

right to break it down, set up the tank, once uv sorted the leak out, and let it run for 6 weeks. maybe 2-3 weeks in chuck in some minnows again to help the cycle. then after 6th week go get your water tested. add the sand in at first too, but make sure u wash it thoroughly 1st. just keep rinsing through with boiling water a few times a day for about 3 days.
if ur water isnt ready, do a 75% water change every other day for a week then get it tested again.
if all is good then add one or 2 fish but leave it at that for a few weeks. then add a few more. if u add too much too quick then it will spike ur water and will kill them all off.

do u know how big TSNs and RTCs get and how quick? 130g isnt going to last long hun. u will need to upgrade them to a huge pond poss within a year (iv never owned any as i couldnt house them, but from what ppl on here have said they get big QUICK)
they get up to 5ft give or take. can u accomodate them for when they r older? please dont get them if u cant, ppl cant seem to give them away once they get 2ft plus and u certainly wouldnt want to stunt such a gorgeous fish...well any fish but these are my favs lol.

i think thats the basic breakdown of it, but def read up on the cycle...im rubbish with understanding it and have lost a few fish to my ignorance when i first started.

dont take my word for everything i have said, i am by no means an expert, but this to me is good advice.
any more questions lovely always ask :-)

oh yea, ALWAYS rinse EVERYTHING before it goes in your tank lol.

Yeah I know how big they can get. I do not know there growth rates tho. 130 was going to be my grow out tank till my 470ish gallon is finished or until we buy a house instead of rent. Which we rent from my wifes grandparents so we can do whatever really. But I'm not wasting time or money on a pond when we could move @ ne time.
