HELP POWER OUT NEGATIVE DEGREES

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'm away this weekend. Fed the fish this morning then left. From what I hear the power has been out for six hours. I am worried about my display tank as it is overcrowded with Mbuna. I guess if they die and my fry make t I will just start over. I have fry growing of each type of fish that I have except for my Acei. I have had this happen before, problem is I am not home and don't know how long the outage will last. I am praying.

warm water changes can extend the time but, depending on the stock it's hit or miss, I had goldfish last for the 8 day with out power, everything else was lost.

if u have a gas water heater and running water do small water changes to keep temps up. the last severe storm in Il. I left my 29g african grow out alone and only worried about my main tank and my africans made it two days without heat. Temps got to the 50s but they all survive.

Good luck I hope you get power back soon.

I'm not the op just commenting to his post, that he is not the only one with this problem. I had a nice little business selling fry as my Mbuna are all mature and have breeding partners.

A gas stove is not appropriate to use as a heating method for anything but food.

Wrap the tank in blankets, keep the lids closed and every hour or so, agitate the surface of the water to help oxygenate it. Don't feed the fish at all. If you have canister filters, you will want to open them to allow room air in to prevent the water from becoming stagnate.

I'm guessing you are experiencing the power outage due to the winter storm in your area.

He didnt mean the house. Warm portions of the tank water on the stove. Jeez.

Exactly, glad someone else could recognize the nonsense in that post.

It's tough being helpless. I lost power for 16 hrs last night till today and picked up a pair of rays that was very expensive less than 24 hrs prior. Luckily they are ok but I couldn't find anything I could do. I have heard people heating water on a grill or camping stove but that def isn't easy. Good luck to you
