help push me over the cliff-to sand substrate

In that tank with all the windows, I have algae growing on everything. Sorry to sound stupid, but.....
will sand (crushed quartz) host algae the same way the rocks do? or will the cichlids stir it up too much for it to grow?

All my planted tanks, have sand. Two black sand, two white sand.

Black looks alot better, white offten gets alage, but nothing serious. If you shift your sand once evey two weeks, it wont be a problem.

Well, it is easier to tell if the sand need to be shift around. If it get dark, then it means that there is a buildup and need to be shfited.
