I would let it be for right now and see if he gets it down, I would not try pulling it out if its tail first, the plecos fins will get pulled open and do some damage.

Ok. And if he doesn't get it down?

If it doesn't get it down I would try pushing it in slightly and I mean slightly, be gentle if it doesn't budge don't force it. If that doesn't work I would try to pull it out while twisting it. You don't want the spines getting caught while you are backing it out. I would leave it be fora couple hours atleast before I tried pulling it back out. If you do try I would make sure to twist it while you pulled..

alright, sounds good. Thanks for you help.

Happened to me when my jaguar ate a Texas. Get some needle nose pliers and hold the jd firmly and pull & twist the pleco out as recommended

your pleco is 2 and a half feet long???? i hope you meant " not '... and JD's have teeth in their mouths and maybe their throats too.

Obviously he meant 2 1/2". A 6" JD wouldnt even be able to attempt to eat a 2 1/2' pleco...

For anyone who has followed this thread today, I got the pleco out. I'll keep a close eye on the JD for the next hour or so, but I think he should be ok. I ended up using the needle nose to get him out. Came out with a little bit of twisting. Thanks to anyone who suggested a remedy!
