water temp shouldn't have done it. I have mine between 78-80. Did you check ammonia/nitrite levels? How did you acclimate him to the tank? Do you have any powerful current (powerheads etc.?) what type of filtration?

I also agree, don't buy them that small. Go for at least 8" and have the store feed him while you're standing there. Make sure it doesn't have any damaged scales, and the fins look clean and not torn up. Unless you're really good at raising them, make sure you start with a healthy specimine.

i had him in a 55 gallon with good nitrite and nitrate levels, 30-60 gallon hangon filter. it was kind of a spur the moment purchase, the stores rarely gets them , i just walked in and saw him and had to have him

i let him sit for like 10 minutes in the bag in the water, then let him in. I called the petstore and they just said they were sorry and they would test my water for me. I went in today and talked to the guy that sold him to me, he was like really suprised lol. but i went ahead and bought a couple saltwater fish (just felt like telling everyone)

hey man sorry to hear about ur arro but in regards to your filtration you may wanna think about getting a larger filter if u plan on keeping large fish i live by filtering my tank 8 - 10 times per hours and my water is crystal clear just a thaught especially because u wanna keep some monsters

i know i need to get a canister filter, i used to have 2 big hang on filters but moved one to my saltwater tank on impulse. once i get a job ill get everything up real nice, but im only 15 so i gotta wait a year

well no rush i mean do it when u can but im just letting u know what i do personally it will save you alot of trouble in the long run good luck on all the rest of your fish man

So you only had him in the bag? You didn't put a little of your tank water into the bag slowly to acclimate him? If you didn't, it wouldn't surprise me the poor lil bugger went into shock. :irked:

Not knowing what the ph at the lfs was at, and the water parameters...placing him into your tank, even if you have the best water parameters without acclimating the aro is a bad thing to do. All new fishes that you purchase should be slowly acclimated to your tank environment.

Just something to think about doing in the future. :D

he didnt go into shock, i had him in there for like 4 days and he was acting fine, what im thinking is the water temp was to low and weakened his immune system

Sorry for your loss. a couple things though for your next aro purchase. Aros that small are very fragile when it comes to water conditions, you should take measures to acclimate it very slowy. While ten minutes will work to equalize the temp, it takes alot longer for the pH. I would find out what pH is at the LFS then set your tank to match as close as possible. Once you have him then gradually adjust your pH to match your tap water.

A 4" aro will out grow a 55 gallon aquarium in about 6 months so you need to have ready a bigger tank. In 18 months it is gonna need to be in a 180 gallon at least. Eventually it'll need even a larger tank. Please consider this in regards to buying another Silver Arowana.

In two of your posts you refered to being implusive, buying the aro and moving the filter. Although we all do it, it is best in our hobby not to make impulsive decisions.
