Help, rescued flowerhorn with bloat!!!!!!!!! URGENT HELP!!!!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Maybe you'll get lucky and he's just a little constipated. If he eats then have you tried de-shelled peas? Id be a little apprehensive about adding both salt and medication at the same time. Their could be adverse reactions. I've always heard the saying on MFK 'salt and meds don't mix'.

I have never heard that before, I wish i heard that before I added the meds... it is epsom salt so I don't know if that makes a diffrence... It is swimming around the tank so that is a good sighn.

My goldfish rarely have a problem pooping (it's what they live to do), but on those occasions when a good old cleanout is beneficial (usually right around a major tank clean) I stop feeding them for 3 days, and then give them cooked shelled peas to eat; they can decorate the plants with poop garlands quite well after that.

Do your goldfish look like my FH when they do that?

They're fantails though, so the body shape is different and they are fat.

Here is one of the girls - this is a normal fantail body

ETA: If your fish looks fat from above when it's a breed that shouldn't look that way, and the scales are raised, chances are that it's bloat (aka dropsy). If the fish is fat with no raised scales, then it may be constipated.

I stopped keeping everything besides goldfish several years ago - used to keep discus, clown loaches & assorted live bearing fish across a number of tanks, so someone who is most familiar with FH will probably be able to answer this better than I could.
