HELP --- RTC getting on my last nerve

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I would disagree whole heartedly. Most predatory fish that I get I powerfeed them on a steady supply of live fish up to a certain size. Depending on the species that will determine what size. After which I switch themover to other foods. Even being fed 100s of feeders per week, after switching prodided some common sense is used in stocking there are usually no problem.

It's also not like he was raising his rtc on feeders. It was doing what rtcs do, eat. It just so happenned that it was it's tankmates that were eaten.
SO, your predatory fish now live with various types/sizes of fish which they formerly ate, and don't eat them?
or maybe bigger fish.
Good luck to the OP, because this RTC is fully grown. right.

Attempted reasoning here is pointless.

They are kept with bigger fish, hence the "common sense is used in stocking" point that I originally said. Judging by some of the op tankmates and their sizes a lot of those fish were obviously going to end up in the rtc.

forget common sense.
I recommend using any "ability to LEARN from repetitive incidents" to the OP's own statements:

FYI & BTW --- this one seems MUCH MORE aggressive towards any other fish in the tank. ...... he ate another Koi and STILL kept trying to take bites out of the other fish in the tank

...... My problem seems to be THIS SPECIFIC RTC. ... one was still sticking out his mouth and he eventually spat it out ... dead.

Same with the Aro's, Cigar Shark and some of the other cats he has killed.
He couldn't even really eat them, he just tried to and ended up killing them.

...... one Aro got swallowed and 1/2 eaten ... the 2nd one just basically got mauled and injured to the point where it could not be saved anymore. .... my IDS's and Hi-Fins ......the 2x bigger one's he made the one jump out of the tank and the other was again a case of constant attacks until it gave up the fight. .......

Common sense and/or human reasoning ability says Loud & Clear:
Large size fish, and being completely inedible makes no difference to the outcome with this rtc.

The End.

Right. That's why no one is advising the OP to continue on with the small tank and experimenting with tank mates. Overall, the advice is (and the OP himself had already realized it) to separate the RTC and when the 5400 gal pond is available try it there but very, very carefully and with close observation.

My personal advice is that if the RTC starts to "misbehave" in the pond, it's time to find him a different owner/home or solitary pond for the rest of its life... which can be 20-50 years.

I would kill it. If it ate all my fish "money" i would be so mad if I were you ha

That's a load of BS. You'd kill an animal for doing what it has been genetically programmed to do that you also reinforced by giving it more food sized tank mates? I think you are the one who needs to be killed to clean up the gene pool. Stupidity can't be cured but it can be suppressed.

You think I would actually do it?! Trust me I would not actually kill an animal I've had my fair share of killing in my tank and did I kill them?? No I didn't I took them out of my tank and sold them to my lfs because honestly I was not going to have a fish that just killed every new fish that I put in the tank. Now when my new fish get eaten by the other fish did I think about it? Yeah I did. But I would never be able to do that and cool heads prevail and I fished them out and sold them to my lfs. So relax k I was just joking when I said that, I probably should have mentioned that in the comment but that's a bad habit I have with writing something over the Internet, I tend to think that people can tell that I'm joking because that's how I intended to make it, but people read things differently then me. So sorry if my comment offended you buy just wanted to clarify that I would never do that or have never done that and that I was just joking.

Can you pm me the name of your lfs so I won't buy any amazing fish there, when I pass through your town?
:-I

Ok, everyone can relax now ... way too much aggression on this thread, it's almost as bad as watching my RTC.
I am moving him over into the other tank within the next 2 days, without any tankmates :)
See there, everyone is happy until the pond is completed :)

what aggression? the lfs is a legit option.
I asked a joking, but semi-legit question. Surely Tbone will 'get it'. his town really is on our frequent travel route.
LOL.
