Help sexing Jack Dempsey's! Quick...

Both look female. Cant see the bottom pic too well though.

You don't judge these by their vibrant colors, you look at the gillplate.


I agree top is female,bottom look like it could be female as well but need better picture.

That is what I was going to say.

Top one is female cause of the dorsal fin being more rounded and it kinda stops. Males have longer fins that flow to a point. I have a bunch of Jacks and thats how mine look. The bottom one also maybe a female.

Maybe if you could post a side profile pic of the fish, I maybe able to tell for sure.

If I were to keep one, I would definitely keep the one in te top pic. Looks like the bottom one has been thru WWIII!!

OMG. Using the fins to sex JD's really don't work. Maybe in other species, but in JD's.......... its all in the gillplate.
