yea i washed it for wel over an hour.
Mbuna i changed it while i was oing a weekly water change. I think the jags died because they digged a lot to try to build a nest and the sand got stuck on to their slime coat which led to this.
TBH i regret putting sand in my tank, its a night mare, cleaning the sand, sifting through it etc way to much hassle for what its worth, i know what your saying about the sand sticking to the slime coat when my dads stir up the sand they sometimes get this but they shake it off.

when i changed substrate i removed all of the water from my tank, put the fish in poly boxes and about 30 gallon of the previous tank water into buckets then after cleaning the substrate for about 4 hours i put it in the tank and out the old water back in aswell as some from my other tank and then tap water, left the tank to settle for an hour whilst acclimatising the jags and then added them, there ok but i would have gravel over sand anytime now.

also i think bolty had some trouble with his jags when he put them in with sand im not to sure tho.

I have tanks with sand and I always see fish with sand stuck to their slimecoat, never affects them though. What kind of sand did you use?

You didn't clean all your filters after you changed the substrate did you? You might have removed all the good bacteria from your tank by removing the cycled gravel.

yea im thinking removing the gravel caused this, ive seen in alot of people lose fish after changing up

Wow, it really sucks that you lost both of them. How are the fry and how are the other tankmates?
