Help! Sick True Parrot.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
does it break apart. have tried a direct injection? but i dont know if thats safe. that is very weird
In the pictures you can kind of see it's changed shape and color over time. When I netted him it just kind of fell off and it was liquidy. It's also been knocked off several times since he's had it. I think even trying to net him again would knock it off before you could inject anything in it.

Read up on hexamita, often involves pimple type growths than burst and ooz out. Not hexamita as in hith, true hexamita, iirc it's a parasite.

Forget Google images, all you will get is pics of hith disease, hexamita is something different. It's present in most aquarium and takes hold of stressed fish with weak immune systems.
You need maximum dose of metro plus maybe metro food. I've read about api furan 2 and Kanaplex being used Aswell...
Good luck.

Thanks Justarn. The description sounds about how it looks. I did a 25% water change and started the third round of tetracycline along with metro. He's looking fatigued today. I'm not sure if it's the medicine or the disease.

When I checked on him this morning the bump had mostly fallen off. There's a real film of bubbles on the water and it has a yellowish tint. I'm sure it's from the meds. I did about a 40% water change as he looks stressed I'm assuming from all the meds. I found what had fallen off on the bottom of the tank. Here's some pics. It actually felt somewhat hard as I tweeted it out but as you can see on the paper it lost fluid and when I moved it for a better pic it kind of pulled apart. It sure is shaped like a worm but I couldn't id any hooks or anything like that. I don't think metro would treat a worm if that's what it is?image.jpeg image.jpeg image.jpeg

The correct term is actually Spironucleus, Hexamita is used incorrectly to describe a condition found in tropical fish. Not too sure what that is, but it is not Spironucleus vortens.

Are you thinking a bacterial infection or some sort of parasite? If parasite I'll have to switch gears on the treatment.

Impossible to say without a microscope, and someone that knows exactly what to look for. I would stay on course with what you are doing, and then follow up if need be with what Tom (Aquanero) recommended. Do not stop the antibiotic treatment early. If it is a bacterial infection you want to make sure that the treatment is finished, just as you would with a human being treated with antibiotics.

Tetracycline leaves a yellow tint, probably should have left the water in there.
And yes, hexamita (what aquarist call it even tho it's not correct!-) is a parasitic organism and yes it's treated with metro.

Justin is correct, the yellow color came from the antibiotic that you are using. Follow the API directions.
