I'm looking at my tank this afternoon and noticed this white in-between my glass panels. Or behind the silicone. I don't think I've ever noticed it before. Tank is alittle over a year old to me. But probably about 5 years old or so. I have been considering re siliconing this section because it was alittle thin. But I feel like this white is new. Do I need to drain this tank immediately?

As you can see it's only on the on side.

Take this advise with a grain of salt as im far from expert on these things...

But to me that looks like the silicone is almost separating to the middle of the seal on one side if im not mistaken, which depending on size and and height of the tank could be a potential hazzard...

Not sure of you can drain it to that level and cut the existing silicone and reseal the area. If you can, I would. Beats having an unplanned swimming pool in your house. If you can pull it off I'd let the silicone dry two days before you refill it. Sure it would probably cure in 24 hours but it couldn't hurt to give it an extra day. Good luck and way to be observant, you may have saved yourself a lot of grief.

Yeah, I'm draining it as we speak. I can't take the chance of that happening. If i clean the corner and cut the existing silicone and reseal the seam will that fix the issue? Or will the Silicone between the two panels still keep separating?

Im sure some of the people more suited to andwering this question will chime in, but here is my 2cents...

Since the seam has started to separate like that, it maybe best to reseal that seal completely, coz i would guess if its that bad right now, it could keep going further down to areas below the area you fix???

yeah, I'd definitely do down to the base of the tank. But I still worry about the silicone in between the panels. Or do you think doing the seam will be a good enough fix.

^ since its empty might be worth looking over all the seals??? Coz as much of a hassle as it sounds, maybe worth checking if any other need resealing as well...

yeah, worth it to not have to do It all again!

I think you can pull it off in an isolated area if you want, based off what you can see in the seams and the tanks age. If you do just the effected area I'd reseal the tank entirely when it's about ten years old. Aside from that a decent patch should be fine.
