help silver arowana acting weird

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
White stringy poo is usually sign of an internal parasite. The salt, heat and extremely clean water is all you need for the ich and the slime coat to regenerate.

Why did you add the sick fish to this tank? I would get the ich under control and then treat for internal parasites.

hes dead :(
what could have caused this? ive lost 17 fish over the last 2 days because of this.
i was not at home to really see what could have caused this.
i lost my 5 clown loaches, 11 datnoids, and my arowana. All of them had the same characteristics, they all had ich like white spots, kinda just floated at the top and did nothing, and when they died most of their slim coat was coming off.
Does anyone know what caused this? what i noticed is once the fish got it it died the next day or two. I really need to know what this is so i can prevent to to happen to the rest of my fish.
All of my cichlids look fine other than the fact that they usually stay at the bottom. Im doing another water change right now and ill test the water right now too.
thanks for the help

i dont understand y u put the sick datnoids with the aro on the 1st place, but man that sucks!!! sorry about the loss. What was the last thing u fed to them? and wait b4 u do another water change, check ur local water facility maybe theyve been doing or adding some chemicals in ur water lately. slimy coats sounds like chlorine burn. did u treat ur water b4 u added them?

it was like 5 days before they showed any signs of slim coat, and then that wouldnt effect my arowana if it was from a water change.
yeah i know that was the stupidest thing ive done.
ive done the same thing before when treating ich since their original tank has no heater and the arowana tank is always like 85-86 degrees and ive never had ich in that tank
so my ph is between 7.2-7.4
nitrite is 0
ammonia was clear at first, but after like 5 minutes it turned light yellow. not sure what t hat means, but does the meds effect the tests

I am very very sorry for your loss..i did not think it had reached this extreme.. clown loaches do not have scales so they are very prone to ICK if it is introduced to the tank... Usually the way it is introduced is purchasing a fish from LFS{always look at the whole tank of fish before purchase} train yourself to examine even fish your not thinking of buying} if one has it then the whole tank has it..some are not prone to it and maybe just carriers but it is concidered a "sick TAnk" next thing is before you put any new fish into your tanks you must use a quarenteen tank first.. too many fish are lost this way and it is so easy to prevent..let them stay in the quarenteen tank for 3 weeks or more .. watch them and make sure they stay healthy..if they are not healthy they stay where they are and you treat the small quarenteen tank... The point is you cannot trust new fish by looking at them.. you must let them sit around for weeks to know.. the way i see it all was well before adding these fish.. but it could have been brewing before from other fish that you added ..losing an arow is heartbreak ... now that tank is the sick tank and you must go through all the cycles to clean it up before adding any again or it will resurface.. it must be completly eradicated and cleaned up.. i wish you the best..You are not alone in learning this lesson the hard way.. i did add a clown loach right from LFS store many years ago and i too lost some other healthy clowns because of my ignorance..but these steps are the only way you can prevent this happening and i learned ..i always have a spare tank set up ..as a quarenteen tank or sick tank..

does anyone know what could have caused this? because ich doesnt eat away at their slim coat. Every single one of the fish that died at a lot of their slime coat hanging off. I just checked my tank again and every fish i had except for cichlids died. right now im wondering why the cichlids did not get it.

My carpinte had the exact same thing, he had small white spots, stopped eating, and had stringy white poo. I treated the tank with salts, melafix, etc... but it did not help. I figured it was an internal parasite, and I believe he had protozoan velvet. I added meds (I forget what they were called, but they had malachite green in them) to the tank, but first I took out all the healthy fish and put them in a different tank. The medicine took care of his parasite problem in less than a week, and he's healthy now. (he was floating on top of the tank half dead, but the med saved him)

You should do a lot of big water changes because your cichlids might get it.

yeah ive been doing water changes, all of the cichlids are fine now, but one that is staying close to the rocks and hidding kinda.
but once my fish had it, it died the next day?
