OK I'll do a couple large changes to flush the system again but it is in a basement that is finished but not in real use no candles sprays or cleaners it's a bar room that gets used only three time a year his one small light is on a timer and he gets his 4-5 massivor pellets or chunks of shrimp what ever he'll eat that day and thats it
what should I try giving him for food?? and what about the almond leaves and would phosphates affect him at all we have very high levels coming from our city supple ?
I have at least 15 other aquariums running perfect salt/fresh/planted/reef all of them are breeding and doing great .
but my poor little cat fish is kicking my ***

wow-8 months?I missed that-previous poster is correct.no way would a parasite let it live that long.It would have quit eating and died by now.At least I would think so or that is one helluva strong fish!I wonder if theres something in the substrate that may have fallen in the tank or is there any loose insulation or espestis or anything totally out of the ordinary that could be getting in the tank since its in a basement?Other than that-it would have to be something with your water supply.are you using an outside garden hose to fill the tank or anything like that?do you use a water conditioner to neutralize your water b4 throwing it in the tank?its gotta be one of these things.good luck i hope it works out for you.try switching up the diet though.maybe some krill or market shrimp-tilapia etc.

The ceiling is cover it's a finished bar room real nice but the shag carpet the water supply is city but It's way on the outside of town and I've used three types of test on chlorine and chloramines and haven't found any from the supply leading in to the house then there is also a large Cullaigan water filter that is suppose to take out any chlorine anyway and its maintenanced yearly it's the same as one at local petco that they use straight into there tanks but as I use that water I also add chlorine at the filter intake to mix in tank with water changes so I think I'm safe on chlorines and heavy metals anyway but there is alot of phosphates I use R/O for my reef and planted but can't afford to buy that much and haul that much R/O water from local groc store

Growth in length at this size isn't as important as the appitite...you should be able to feed it till it looks like it swallowed a Honda. Everyday at this size isn't ideal but is alright considering it's weight... or lack there of.

If I were you I would be stopping by the local Pet* (co or Smart) and getting something to nuralize the phosphates... but typically that wouldn't change an RTC's eatting habits... but since it was moved from such an undersized tank (stressed) to different water (which could be harder or contaminated with something that your filter isn't catching... Rust, Floride ect) the stress is still there and thats why it's not eatting... RTC's are Famous for Hunger strikes but they usually start up again within a month or two... not 8!

Petco has nothing and smart is an hour away if you have a particulur product in mind "brand name" I'll order it on line right away Thanks for all the help

Take your pick...Even Wal-fart carries some of these products, Personally I have no recommendations as my tap water is ready to go for all my fish... nothing needs to be done to get it in the tanks... it goes from the Python on the sink straight to the tank

As for the Tank temp... don't change a thing... a hot RTC is a Hungry RTC anywhere upto 86 is fine (although I wouldn't want to do it long term that high... My Tanks all run between 80-83 as well...

Mmmm I guess my Migriane got to me cause I thought I was talking to you about PH at one point and guess I missed that we switched to Phosphates...

good link here

When My RTC was 18" he would scarf down a good sized handfull of shrimp... or between 4-6 Sardins (4-5" in size) every other day
