Ok, so this guy sells me these fish supplies and neglects to tell me that the bucket of aquarium gravel is full of snails:hypnotize. Po lil' ol' me finds these nasty critters, in the billions, while rinsing the dang gravel (yea, right when I'm about to fill my big aquarium with it, you know- the one I've been refurbishing for months?!)..
The gravel is in a bucket, in a plastic bag. Do these suckers lay dormant/could they possibly survive this and take over my new environment?
I hope you can help, fast.
Thanks, in advance...

Sounds like Malaysian Trumpet snails. I have had them survive for months in damp buckets of gravel. Assassin snails or loaches will keep the baby snails at bay, but the adults will have to be removed manually or killed chemically (which I do not recomend)

If you have the gravel in a bucket just boil yourself a huge pot of water and pour it into the bucket. This will kill the snails and many of them should float to top of the water. When you go to add the gravel into your tank have a few inches or water already in the tank. Then pour the gravel in a small bucket at a time. The dead snail weight less than the gravel an you will be able to pluck them off the top. I done this with my 300 some years ago with the river pebbles I got from a friend.

That, or you could just copper the heck out of the bucket for a couple days, then rinse and add to the aquarium.

Either hit em with the hot water...or, drape a sock full of as many pennies as you can find and soak that ish in the bucket.
