hi all, I have a 5' Starry Night cichlid in a fully cycled 75 gal tank along with a few baby geos and 2 EBAs. The Starry was recently introduced about 1 month ago and is the biggest fish in the tank.

The fish now has some rotten tissue on its left gill plate, and it's the only fish in the tank that has this problem. The wound has developed from bare minimum to this stage for the past a few weeks. I thought it was some scratch from fish fight initially but now it begins to worry me as it gets bigger and doesn't heal. The fish has been eating well, swimming well, very active and healthy overall, fish poop is also of normal color and form.

Could this be of some fungal infection or HITH? any cure or prevention that I can use? first post on MFK, please help thanks.

Don’t think it’s hith. Looks cauliflowered. I think it’s a fungal infection but not 100%

Thanks Rtc/tsn, any suggestion on how deal with it? I'm relative new to the hobby and haven't encountered such before. I heard about HEX Shield, would it be helpful? any other med/salt that might help? I'd like to be less intrusive since the rest of the fish are doing fine.

I’d separate to a different tank if possible. Wouldn’t add salt. I’m not sure about medication. kno4te kno4te knows more than I do. I wouldn’t dose the tank with anything until he can give his opinion

Hard to make out clearly but I’d dose api fungus cure and triple sulfa. Keep nitrates below 20ppm.

I don’t think it would hurt anything to treat the entire tank

Can move the fish to make dosing easier but not needed.
