Help stock a 125-150 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry to bring back this old thread of mine, but it looks like I'm going to be stocking a 180 gallon instead of a 125-135. So how does that change my stocking plans?

I'd like to keep a pearsei or a bocourti if possible in a 180. Is that even possible? With it I'd like to keep a heterospila or two and a blood parrot or two. A bichir or three for the bottom.

Would this be doable or is a 180 really still too small for a pearsei/bocourti and other large cichlids? The heterospila (once i track them down) would be the priority.

I think the 180 is fine for the pearsei/bocourti andif it plays nice the others too but it will just be about managing the bioload once they are grown. As far as aggression its always a dice roll

Yes. I missed that thread but it seems like (from other's on here) the females seem to be much more placid and easier to stock around than the males. More than likely I'll order a small group once I've let the hets and other inhabitants get some size and rehome as they go. I'm still several months away from being able to get this thing running...but it's always good to have a plan.

I was assuming at the get go that I'd be stocking a 125 or 135 because, at the time, they were readily available. I'm cheap so I'm dependant on what shows up on craigslist. I had never seen a 180 come up for sale before but this week, 2 of them popped up. So I'm jumping on it while i can and now I'll be able to keep a pearsei.

Ugg..no. I was so disappointed. We had a group order all lined up and had been talking to Dan about them but by the time we got the order in he had sold all of them. So now i'm waiting again for someone to have them.

Rapps does have two full grown males for sale

Yeah I saw those. I'm looking for some little guys as I don't currently have room for larger ones. I could put some smaller ones in my 75 for the next few months with my juvy sevs and they'd be fine for a while, but I don't have the space for big guys at the moment.
