Planning to install a see thru 8' x 2' x 2' (or 30") aquarium as room divider. Please help with stocking ideas? Can't be too demanding in terms of husbandry as I only live at the location max. 9 months every year. We like to be able to see them from 30'-40' away and we refer active fishes with constant movement.

Current thoughts:
  1. Silver or Black aro - Love the size and constantly swimming but 2' wide tank may be too narrow? Otherwise ideal. And I have experience with Silver.
  2. Australian aro - need even more space to turn?
  3. Fahafa puffer - Seens to hide most of the time.
  4. Discus - they aren't too active and not sure about leaving them for helpers to take care. I never owned Discus.
  5. Altum Angelfishes - No experience with these, are they active? Last experience with angelfish was 20 years ago, remember them to be quite inactive.
  6. Frontosa - Again, lack constant action, But may work. I have experience with Fronts.
  7. Midas, Devil or BP - Like the color, may be a male with a couple of females?
  8. Goldfish Koi - umm, probably not.

We are not big fans of gar, pike or catfishes.....

suggestions and ideas?

Need some big guys to be able to see at 40 feet

I was saying the fish will have to be large to be able to see anything at 30-40'. I currently have a female black belt. Very agressive against same species and slightly less agressive against other cichlids. My female keeps spawning and owns the tank while protecting her eggs.

Queensland lungfish (Australian) peacock bass, giant gourami, gars, datnoid, clown knife, or a heap of festae and electric blue jack dempseys

I was thinking of Black belt too, got the size, pretty color and I always like the deep body cichlids. Do they tolerate aquaplants? Are they active or more like Severums which spend most time spanding still?

Wild Oscars and Roktails?
Oscar works, I was at San Diego Sea World years ago, they have a huge tank with 20-30 oscars. Apparently, when the tank is big enough, they can co-exist naturally.

Peacock bass or African cichlids
Not a fan of Peacock, and most African chichlids aren't big enough. I have Frontosa for the past 10 years or so, the largest about 13" ..... but they don't move much.
