1- Oscar
6- Red Hook Silver Dollars
6- Filament Barbs
10- Clown Loaches

Lots of movement, nice color, low maintenance and all grow to be large, 6"+. The Oscar will be the king of the castle and will be the showpiece. He will keep the Silver Dollars, Barbs and Loaches on their toes...all fish will display schooling behavior with the Oscar lurking around.

Interesting. May be I can be more adventurous and have a simple combo of Midas (1m, 3f?) and say 10-12 filament barbs? LOL, I think the Midas will do more chasing than the Oscars.

When your Midas pair off to breed, kiss everyone goodbye.

I don't like seeing fish beat up on one another, so that's why I like Oscars...they get grumpy, but I've never had one that was a killer, like some Midas and other aggro cichlids can get.

Blackbelts are pretty active. mine only stays in one place when defending her eggs, other than they theyre typically on the move. I dont have any live plants in my tank but I have heard they would destroy them. I have read they tend to have a more vegetation based diet so I wouldnt get my hopes up with live plants

you can do a nice mix of vieja fenestatus, vieja hartwegi, vieja synspilum, vieja regani, argentea and blackbelts
all these fish get big and dont stop moving and will fill your tank with color google them with your wife she'll love them but with any fish like them you really cant put plants in with them they will dig them up / eat them your best bet would be to put a few big pieces of drift wood and some nice lg rocks throw some good lights on them and watch the colors POP from 30' away i hope this helps a little please let us know what you decided to go with with some pics

Come to think of it, with Black Belts, it opens the door to a brackish setup, with Mono sabae as dither. I raised 6 monos from one inch infants to about 6" long, 7-8" tall monsters many years ago n fresh water. Cichlids couldn't catch them as they turn too fast. Unkind to the damels, but they can live in brakish too.

These may open the door to lot's hybrids, although I quite like 'engineered' hybrids, but what am i going to do with lots of accidental ones?

Flagfishes are very intriguing, love to know more about them.

OK, search temporary over. I think that I am going for Severum Rotkeil. I have a lot of luck with severum over the years, mostly gold severums. Never had Rotkeils though. May be a couple of bags of tetras from farms.
