My GT died this morning after being ill for a week or so. I just can't do another GT, so I'm rethinking some of my options. The only thing I have in there now is 10 Clown Loaches which occupy the bottom. I was thinking about putting in some schooling fish to keep it interesting and then having either 1 cichlid or possibly a pair. I'm way over filtered and I do very frequent changes so I keep a well-stocked tank no problem.

Current dwellers:
10 Clown Loaches

Dither schools:
10 Tiger Barbs
8 Columbian Tetras (too wimpy?) or Buenos Aries Tetras?
5 Giant Danios

Cichlid choices (only 1 or pair):
Salvini (possibly pair?)
Keyhold (possibly pair?)
EBJD
Cuban (worried too aggressive/big)
Fancy Severum

Pearl qourami come from the same waters as clown loaches and they are stunning when the reach adulthood.
 
Why wouldn't you get another gt? I was going to suggest a gt pair.
 
A 75 is insufficient for 10 clown loaches. Not because of filtration, but because of overcrowding. Clown loaches grown at least 8 inches, and sometimes even 12!

I recommend you get rid of about five and then get whatever cichlids and dither fish you like.
 
^^^ i disagree cl's do better in large packs....and it will take years to grow 6''+.
 
I agree with both of the previous posts. Clowns do best in a large pack and they will get bigger so an upgrade is a must and I'm sure part of your future plans. I still say go with about 6 pearl gouramis they are awesome as adults. I don't think they get the credit they deserve. Also true flying fox go great with both c/l and pearls. Then you will have a borneo tank.
 
Clown Loaches grow slower than the continents drift apart, once they eventually become big enough upgrade or donate, I'm sure there's plenty of members looking for full growns, not wanting to wait til the end of time for a large CL.

The Salvini Pair will be fairly aggressive, males can be very nasty. A JD will most likely be peaceful enough for the tankmates, an EBJD even more so since they seem to be more timid. I have no experience with the others mentioned.

In regard to your dithers Columbians and Tiger Barbs will probably work, I recently have been keeping BA Tetras and must say, for their size, they hold their own very well temporarily in a tank with Yellow Labs.
