I have decided to sell my female Festae. As much as this pains me, I know that I will have much better sleep at night knowing that I have a compatible aquarium.

With this said, I am looking to make some changes and try to find an adequate 'replacement' for her.

The stock I will have to work with:
1 Male Green Terror
1 Ornate Bichir
1 Flagtail Prochilodus

What are some ideas I could look at? Should I be looking to get the GT a mate? If I get a pair of GT will they destroy everyone else in the tank? I am open to all suggestions. I really need some clever ideas/advice as I am super bummed about losing my Festae. :(

Thanks in advance!

Ive been happy with my Bumblebee Oscar I got from Rapp's. Very unique pattern and likely able to holds its own without being too aggressive with tankmates.

I do like Oscars and I would definitely get one, but what else would you keep in the aquarium with it? I wouldn't want too many as their Bio Load is supposedly huge.

1 Male GT
1 Oscar
1 Flagtail Prochilodus
1 Ornate Bichir

This seems a little empty. Would adding a few Severums and perhaps a Fire Eel work? Would a breeding pair of Severums create havoc in a 135 community? Maybe a Jack Dempsey?

So, for example:
1 Male GT
1 Oscar
1-2 Severums
1 Jack Dempsey
1 Fire Eel
1 Flagtail Prochilodus
1 Ornate Bichir

Would this combination be viable long term for a 135?

Keep the ideas coming!

I think a GT and oscar would be to much. I would do 1 GT, 1-2 Severums, convict, flagtail and the bichir

This is not empty at all. All these fish get pretty big. The Gt will likely be the smallest of them as an adult. This is where I would stop. You would have three larger fish that would inhabit the upper areas and one large bottom fish. Its just whether or not the two cichlids can get along....

Would you get an Oscar over 2 Severums or a Jack Dempsey? How much more of a bioload are they to handle in comparison? I appreciate your input.

The Oscar will produce a HUGE amount of waste thats why I did not suggest any more tankmates and to keep it to the simple line up. I would totally get a unique Oscar over Sev's or a JD for sure. But like I said unique, if it were just a common Oscar then I would like choose something else. Ive kept sev's and JD before but really like the personality of the Oscar more. But I do like the look of a good Super Red Sev or and EBJD....

Thanks for the input. The reason I say it looks rather 'empty' is because I assumed that keeping the GT as opposed to the Festae would open more doors for a community aquarium. However, theoretically, it seems that I could keep the Female Festae instead of the GT and put a large Oscar in with her along with the Flagtail Prochilodus and the ornate.

Wouldn't this combination be just as likely to succeed?

Or, if you think the Oscar would get beaten on, wouldn't a Datnoid or something else big and solid be able to coexist?

I think a female Festae would dominate even a large Oscar. Im going from an assumption that your GT will be milder than what a festae would be. Oscars are not that aggressive. If you like the looks of a dat why not look into a Caquetaia myersi?
