HELP! Tank bowing...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So what did you decide to do? Just go for it until you can find a brace...I called around, glasscages and some other manufacturers, they dont make frame's for my size tank...argh.

Anyone ever build a euro-brace onto their tank? Looks like that's what i'll be doing, ANY advice would be great!

Just don't make it harder than it is. Just put 2-3 pieces across the tank and silicone them. They will add the support that you need.

my 300 blew it's center brace last year i guess it was. it bowed out about 1". i drained it to reduce the bow and siliconed it back in. not a big deal. listen to Pharaoh..

I would brace it especially with the 30" of height which is a lot of pressure exertion. Are there any tank builders in your area? I know Miracles in Glass (very reputable builder) is just across the border, contact them.

It does have 15 mm glass...most tanks only have 12 mm glass.. and the Bow in only a CM... It's not that bad now the more I read and research, but I do want to brace it...Think i'm going to put one piece in the middle and two on the sides to brace the corners... and give me a place to put a plexi glass top. Does plexi glass let much light through? I'm really pumped about having 300 gallon tank, more than double my biggest tank now. Might get a TSN, who knows...

Quality acrylic will let plenty of light through. Just watch out for sagging.

That was all answered in my thread. I knew my tank is 10 years old or so, and come to find out that is how they were built back than. Mine has thicker glass that today's tanks of equal size. I'm getting 3/16 bow when completely filled, and feel more comfortable now that before my research. I DO plan to but in a permanent brace just for safety sake, but at this point I'm sure it will hold the way it is just fine. The canopy I also plan to build will fit over the rim of the tank and help reinforce the bow as well.
