did a 25% wc today and water hasnt cleared. Put some crystal clear in and the water jus isnt clearing. Fish are puckering alot almost like there moving water through there mouths i think i remember reading about that previously as a sign they cant get enough oxygen. I have a airline in and filter so im not sure why.

ANY IDEAS????

HELP ASAP

How long has the tank been set up?

Do you treat the water before it is added to the tank?

Have you tested your water parameters, if so what are they?

tank has been up for almost a month. treated the water with aquaplus before putting back into tank. Im actually jus ran out of my test kit. I know the crystakl clear makes small particles clump together to be easily filtered, could the fish be eating that? Like i said i have 2 airstones going and the filter was ok i checked it so i cant see how it would be an oxygen problem.

I've used Crystal Clear and it clumps up small particles so the filter can catch it. My fish also seemed to be breathing harder but I think it's because the Crystal Clear makes the water "thicker"

Is that running for a month after cycling? or including? And IMO all clarity additives aren't worth using. Just get some fine filter floss and put it in the filters, better than adding unneeded treatments to the water..

Also when doing w/c micro bubbles will be in the water and can take some time to dissipate. It's because of the tap water being pressurized and the best way to stop the little bubbles would be to leave the water out for a while to equalize. I know that you didn't fill straight from the tap/hose but the water needs to sit for an hour or so to combat this..

You have high ammonia and or nitrite. Your fish are doing that because their gills are getting burned by the ammonia. Do a 75% water change.

I think its a classic case of tiny fish waste flowing back to the tank. When I do water change, I turn off my HOBs, canister, and wet/dry filter. This causes the dirt that was trapped in the HOB and canister intake as well as the dirt trapped in the sump part of the wet/dry to flow or fal back into the tank. If your water doesn't clear after a couple of hours, it might be due to something else.

I agree that it might be dirt returning to the tank... But

"You have high ammonia and or nitrite. Your fish are doing that because their gills are getting burned by the ammonia. Do a 75% water change."

He said he did a water today. So if there is ammonia in the water chances are it came from the tap, or the fish would have been gasping before the water was changed. So don't do a 75% w/c at the moment.

How long has the tank been running for? including cycle time??

if your tank hasnt been set up for even a month, then its still cycling . you need to go get a reliable test kit (not the strips) and check you parameters. Im betting you have ammonia still-and that is highly toxic to fish in any amount. IF you test and find that you DO have ammonia, you need to do a waterchange, add some Prime in there.. wait a few days and test again.. and if still present do another waterchange.

a sign of ammonia poisoning is gasping, red streaks or redness around their gills and fins..

check your water parameters (ammonia, nitrIte and nitrAte levels) first.

That being said though, if the fish wearn't gasping before the w/c was done then there might be a problem with the water you used for the w/c so test that aswell..
