HELP Tank cloudy after water change and fish look off

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
As you can see there is alot of speculation as to what could be wrong with your tank. I would say that it is not cycled, testing ammonia, nitrite and nitrate levels will help determine this.

Since you are using a chemical to clear the water in your tank I would assume the cloudiness has been a persistent problem?

Thanks everyone for the advice. Never had a problem with this previous to the water change. Tank was up for about a month maybe alittle bit more before fish went in. I did the wc yesterday and came home probably 5-6 hours later it was still cloudy so i added some chemical clearer, which is a plant extract.

Woke up today and happy to say that the tank is crystal clear, 2 out of 3 fish have stopped gasping. My red sev had been doing that before the water change and he seems to be acting weird as of late, best way to describe it would be almost like a shaking manner, anyone experience this before....He is still eating like a beast and im able to hand feed him. Maybe he is missing something from his diet, what do they like he seems to love tubifex worms. Thanks again.

So you believe problem solved?

Lots of veggie based foods. Just chuck some lettuce and zuccini every now and then, along with other veg foods like peas and see what he'll eat. Some go mad for it and some don't. Mine don't so i end up replanting half my tank every 3-4 weeks..

Yes glad to say problem is resovled. Tank is clear, got a new test kit and the ammonia is a little high, not to bad but I'm going to do another water change tomorrow to address that. Thanks guys!

Problem resolved, yet high ammonia:duh: You need to figure out why your ammonia is high. Most likely it is because the tank is not cycled or your cleaning/water change proceedure is wiping out your beneficial bacteria. Once the ammonia goes down nitrites are produced which can be just as deadly for your fish.

What you can't see will kill your fish.

Yea I guess that is kind of an oxy moron, should have said have a good idea what's goin on. Was talking to my local lfs guy and he's thinking it a combo of the water change, the water clarifier that i put in, and he recommended cutting back on feeding to every other day for a while. He tho that might have been causing some of the problem.

How can I address the nitrites issue, and is doing another water change and cutting back on feeding effective ways to address the ammonia.

Yep, the ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates are all nitrogen products that are the end result of fish food and/or decaying organic material. Reducing what goes in will reduce what comes out.
