[HELP] Tank NOT cycling

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Algae pad? I thought your water was cloudy! If it's just the glass then, yeah. Scrub it.

Money is nothing. It's how many square inches of biomedia the bacteria have available that matter. I could buy a $1000 filter that sucks or take $50 and a rubbermaid tote and make a filter that would handle 200 gallons all by itself.

Just consider all the media you have. Lots of big sponges, ceramic bio-rings, etc. The more the merrier. But behind a clogging mechanical pad, it's going to slow down. Your marineland is rated for 530 gph. And it probably does that when it's empty and brand new. Once it's full of media and in use, expect half of what it promises. Still great for the bacteria, but it may not be enough gph to get all of your tank's water through it in time.

yes the large pad in the bottom of my canister filter is very clogged, I'm afraid to clean it because I don't wanna kill THE BB =/

no no my c-530 filter is actually very very good it is top quality and makes the water clear, UNTIL i added the superbac, so maybe thats why.

By the way i just changed the background to blue with white rocks, but since its double sided I can see the darkish background on the back, its more light now and I can see the fish better, aquarium looks larger.. some how

Oh, I see how it is now. Yeah, I'd be paranoid, too. I guess wait it out for a few days. Seems like a lot things require waiting and watching, huh?

So the mechanical pad before the bio-media is what's clogged?

Glad you like the background!

Yeah, water is murky cause of superbac, I remember right before i addded it i did a water test, water was clear has hell. then once i added it i couldn't see the fish but it says its normal.

Btw Algae yes was growing on the slate rock, caves i had for plecos/fish, basking areas, a log, some fake plants and the drift wood.. its so annoying to clean it grows like every 3 days..

I just took the fake plants out and scrubbed the algae off, looks much better my tank is a lot cleaner now and brighter too.
my turtle tried to bite my algae cleaner pad XD

btw do you have fake plants/real plants/ ornaments in your tank?

what backgrounds do you usee

I combine fake and real. Here's a video of my 55g. I change things up a lot, and am slowly phasing out the fake plants for real ones as they grow big enough. Black background on the 55g, and I had a black background on the 125g, but it began to fall off and the Oscar was constantly trying to kill his reflection so I reduced it to one black square. Some of my tanks came to me painted blue so I left them that way. But whenever I do a background, it's black material of some sort. Makes the colors of the fish really stand out.

That horrid cave is a dog dish I cut with tin snips. Only the albino CAE uses it.

My 55g has two large HOB's. One is mech and one is bio. I have yet to re-do the filtration on that one. On the mech, I've also draped a 5gal paint strainer mesh bag under the return. It'll probably be a year before I have to clean that one! And my giant otto loves to nibble at the algae that grows on the nylon. Weird, but whatever!

I have water lettuce in all my tanks to consume nitrAtes. I strongly recommend it for fry cover, decoration and nitrAte consumption. It's often free because those of us who have it, have too much of it. I flush fistfulls every weekend.

I listed my 125g filtration on the previous page of this thread, I believe.

The turtles might eat it. But if they're lazy, the lettuce will grow faster than they will eat it. You could also tie it down somewhere on the surface where they don't normally go.
