You just need to dissolve salt before you add. The problem with majority of catfish and loach enthusiasts is they forget to dissolve. I made the same mistake before which cost me almost all my catfishes and loaches. When I dissolved again (despite being wary since the new batch had ich issues), nobody died from the salt treatment anymore. Salt burns the skin. It's why even in marine setups, salt is dissolved first before you add. A teaspoon per gallon will suffice.

thanks for clarifying....helpful as always

to the OP ...looks pretty bad....do what Lupin said and keep your water PRISTINE to avoid infection.

yea i came home and bam! his tail was gone. but i have him in a 75g now with a bunch of CL now.

I agree with him.^^^ There is a slim chance for that but it'd be a miracle if it actually grows back in full form.

Whoa, it looks like 50% chance it will grow back full due to some wound damage though i if he still has few of the rays left that could be a good start. Take a picture in a week when the wound has healed up a bit. My shark was worse than that as the fins were just competely gone to the skin and it grew back just perfect.... BUT did not have bite wounds like yours though. I'll be more worried about the damage to the areas that help grow/produce the fins.

Fish are adapted to survive those "near misses" this is a brutal world they live in.

NOT even confident myself that it'll grow back to the beautiful shape it was.

Yea I'm doing 20% water changes everyday. But it's pretty bad, there was no fighting the night before but when I came home it wa like that and I immediately took him out.

I though he was big enough for my 180g guess not..

as Lupin quite rightly said, some salt and regular water changes will do the job.
