HELP! Tiger Oscar sick, please help me figure out what it is!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My LFS has an Oscar recovering from Hole In Head that has a mark like that, but its an indentation. Is that the case with yours? Another option is he is stressed and over producing mucus, the manifests differently on each Oscar, some it looks like ectoplasm oozing off like he had an encounter with Slimer, on others it forms in splotches and whitish patches kind of like yours. Oscars are some of the poutiest babies, everything stresses them and they mope all over about it lol. Let him get settled, dose some stress reducers for a few days and see if it changes. Even basic water changes can stress these babies...

well i understand you guys are saying that it's overcrowded, the fish i have in there (green terrors are about an inch an a half in length, the oscars are about 3 inches a piece except for him and the red oscar when they get big i will considder adopting him out to someone

I got out my Nikon SLR and took some more detailed shots of him, I hope this will help, from these shots i see a small tear on the left side of his lip and his pectoral fins have some splitting, so I am assuming he may be a little aggressive at some point, I just don't catch him doing that. in general my oscars are the most mellow, and my green terrors which are about an inch and a half do the lip locking thing
occasionally

Still not going to be able to agree on your water Params. But from the new pics it looks like you got someone beating him up.

+1 and are you sure your testing nitrAte and not nitrIte?

My oscar is super clumsy and always taking chunks out of himself hitting on rocks or driftwood etc, I know a little salt helps them heal faster(increasing electrolites etc), not sure how your plants would like that though.

There's no way you have 0 nitrates with those fish in that size tank... you're doing something wrong with your test, probably not shaking the bottles enough time if you have the api freshwater master kit. But back on topic, it looks just like a scar to me... he probably got a little beating or hit a decoration and lost some scales, I'll advise you to stop treating him for random things until you see any real symptoms of disease, you will kill him. If it's just a scar it will heal over time and it's the last thing you should be concerned about with that stocking.
