The Tigrinus temperature story is a interesting one.
People did believe that (even me) it was a 27.5-29c fish because if you go to the Cachoeira de Santo Antonio during dry season you will see temps of around 27-30c but there are no tig's there during dry season they move upriver out of the rapids to deeper cooler water during that time (and to breed according to recent studies). The main population moves into the rapids at the end of the dry season and stays until the next one when the temperature rises again. During the bulk of the year when Tig's are present in the rapids the water temp is between 24-26c.

Taksan, thanks for the knowledge shared. I was always thinking that tig is a tropical fish and able to tolerate higher temperature.

Just to update the bros here. Last night I tried to feed it with tetra pellet, it still refused to eat. I then added another half dose of the Copper Safe (previously half dose added). This morning it looks better again in that it doesn't breath as hard and also more responsive. i tried to feed the pellet and it takes!!! That sounds to be a great improvement to me. But I still don't know if it is the heater or the Copper Safe that is effective....

i just changed the water 50% and added some salt. The heater still on. No more copper safe added.

The last question, the root of the tail still looks pink and there are a piece or two of blood vein visible in the pec fin. Do you guys think this has something to do with some sort of disease?

Do you alter your pH, or is your source water inconsistent?

IMO if you alter the pH or if your source water's pH isn't always the same a pH tester is a necessity as constant pH fluctuations can cause a lot of stress.

Also you need to be able to check for ammonia or nitrite. Especially when you have expensive fish like that. I noticed that some pimeolodes (juruense & tigs) will swim like that if they do not have a spot to rest on. If you give them a bunch of driftwood and broad leaved plants, they will make a perch that they can rest on.

Hi, the water PH is always adjust when the water change is performed. At the beginning of the week the ph can be 7.0 and after one week the ph drops to 6.1/6.2 and after the Water change, it can go back to 7.0 again.
There's a drift wood for the Tig to hide and it used to hide there until recently doing in that peculiar way.

That is no good... You should add a buffer to keep the pH stable.

I'd be dropping the temp if its swimming upwards against the side of the tank its a sign it isn't happy with the water in the tank and is trying to find a way out to better more suitable water.

I'm sorry to say your tig has got to the size when a lot of people lose them

its a digestion problem tig below 12 inch seam to have problems digesting prawns

my advice would be to up the temp to about 86-88 add lots of air and maybe so extra flow also STOP FEEDING PRAWNS

i lost loads of tigs the size yours is now when feeding prawn after i stopped the prawn and just fed hikari pellets i have grown 2 different tigs at different time to a size of 2ft and kept one for 18 months which i sold and the one i have now for 3 years

the swimming up the side is not a problem and lots of large tigs do it

good luck and i hope it makes it you may want to try feeding some live earth worm night crawlers

after they reach 12inch + they seam to be able to eat most food

HI, indeed when it is mixed with other fish, it takes MP but now when i catch it out I only feed it with tetra pellet. I am doing the 40% water change every day. Seems that it is recovering and it takes one piece of the pellet a day.

But anyone know how long should i keep the temperature high?

It's ok to the temp high for life
I kept the tig I have now at 86 for the 3 years I have had him

I only say to feed eath worm now as they are good at clearing a blockage if you tig has one

hi all, i am sorry to say that after changing the water 40%, add a plant (the purpose is to absorb the nitrate/amonia in the water since i didn't set up a filter) in the tub and up the temp by 1d, the tig is going up lorry this morning......

possible reasons for your discussion:
1. there's small trace of copper safe in the water, the plant breakdown the copper safe into copper ion.... This might be fatal to the fish.
2. doing the Water change too fast and the fish get cold and died.

You shouldn't have moved the fish

You should have stopped feeding whole tank MP for 10 days if all the other fish in the tank were healthy this would have been no problem as long as you were still feeding pellets they still had a chance to eat something

It's power feeding small rigs that's another problem as rigs are rubbish hunters and would not get much food in the wild
