Help! Tiny bugs on bottom of aquarium!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Is this a Ray only tank or a community or what?

What are you feeding? I'm trying to determine where they came from. How long have you hade the ray in this tank? How long has the tank been st up? Anything new you feed or may have added?

I had some baby fish in there to start cycling the tank but they got eaten by the three ntts I had in there and the tank has been treated three times with prazipro. The tank has been set up for two maybe three months now. The rays are all cb. Feeding on worms and massivore currently.

They hitched hiked a ride on somthing. Most likly harmless, however unsightly I'm sure. Vacume them out as best as possibile. I asked about the inhabatants because some loches or corys would get rid of the quickly but you don't need to invest in any fish that would become ray food and corys could do some real damage if eaten, so i suggest mechanical removal. Get the vac out and suck up as many as possible with each water change and lighten up on the feeding for a week or two.

they are scuds,,, harmless and also show a healthy tank but i have usually
seen them in planted tanks.

Yes! Thank you for posting I could not remember the name of them for the life of me.

Are they scuds/amphipods? Those are usually larger than a grain of sand.

To me it sounds like copepods, daphnia, or ostracods. Look up pics of these and compare to what you see. I have cultured all 3 by accident over the years and they are all harmless.

My former professor gets micro-blooms of copepods in his marine tank. His species bounces around near the bottom just as you have described. The FW copepods that I cultured mostly sat on the glass.
