Hey guyz,

Im in Nebraska for Turkey Day and found some cool clawed frogs here. I would like to buy some and bring them home with me. I wanted to know your opinoins and/or suggestions for transport.

I will be driving back home and it takes about 19 hours. My main concern is water temperature, but I did notice that they were being kept in with some coldwater goldfish.:)

Do you think that they will be ok in a simple container with air holes?

If these are Xenopus laevis which are the larger clawed frogs, they should be OK in shallow water with the normal cabin temp you'll maintain during your drive (70s). If you stop for a sleep over in a hotel, bring them indoors with you.
There is a wild population occurring in southern CA. The water temp they survive in can drop to the 40s in the winter months.
If these are the dwarf variety, use a styro to help maintain a warmer temp and, again, bring them indoors if you stop. A cheap 50 watt heater should be all they'll need during a hotel stop over. If you can find chemical handwarmers in the area, tape one to the lid to help keep the dwarf frogs warm for the trip.

thanks phil...

not sure if they are dwarfed or not, they are simpled marked african clawed frogs. very small right now only about an 1in or so...

anybody here know if this label gernerally applies to the bigger kind or do they usually specify if they are dwarfed???

For everybody who typically has access to this frog, do they typically sell the giant type or dwarfed if simply labeled "African Clawed Frog"?

very good advice Oddball ... he might also try keeping them tucked away safely in between them pillows in his Avatar, this should also help keep them nice and warm.
Lord knows i would be   :headbang2

When I see the dwarfs they are called "African dwarf frog." And the normal ones are labeled as "African clawed frogs."

Rally? The dwafs around here are labled africanclawed frog.:nilly:

They look very similar but the easiest way to tell them apart is the color. Most of the African Clawed frogs are abino, but no one has an abino dwarf frog. Also, clawed frogs have raised eyes and black tips at the end of their feet. They are illegal in California if I am correct. If they are just african dwarf frogs, you can get them at your local PetSmart.
