Thanks all for your reply, I did a 25% water change yesterday, added 10 table spoons of aquarium salt (to a 72gal tank) and temp is now 84F. My sickest Dat seems to be recovering, the cloudy eyes were quite clearer this morning.

When should I make another water 25% change? is it everyday? and obviously I'll add salt just for the portion of the water being replaced.

Thanks for your help guys, this forum rocks!

its good to see that things are getting better with you dats. just remeber that you should keep up with this regime for 2 weeks after all of the ick is gone. you might not see the ick, but the life cycle of the ick is still there. now i just gotta get my dats all stable again.

i would recommend 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons personally. And as long as you use conditioning salt it wont turn your water brackish you need to use marine salt for that.

Well guys,

Thanks all for your replies, one of my sick Dats just lost the battle this morning :(. On a desperate measure I started using Rid Ich last night. I still have one little Dat with small white dots, but he is eating well and very active, only signs of sikcness are the dots (just 3 of 4) and he looks skinny. Anyway, I'll continue with daily water changes, the Rid Ich and salt, The rest of the pack (6dats and 2 archers) look fine, healthy and eating well. I'll keep you posted.

Ok guys, updating my post so it can help someone else, here is my experience and advice:

Do not wait once outbreak is detected. Act immediately.
Steps: raise temp to 85F or 29.5C, pick in between salt (1table spoon per every 5Gal) or quick fix (med).

I went for both, and the med I used was Rid Ich, follow directions on the bottle, it worked on the 3 day, the ich was gone. I then continued with treatment for another 3 days.

I did water changes everyday for the time the treatment was on. (25%) each time, adding salt for that 25% changed.

Again, this is my own experience, use at your own judgement.

Thanks for all the members who helped with their comments,

My fish seem to be ok now and looking good.
