So one thing I noticed in the picture was the top of your water.. The shot with the Aro in it.

Your water has bubbles on top of it which can usually be a bad sign.. I would keep preforming small frequent water changes. Maybe add some aquarium salt.

Also, get the surface of your water moving, lots of oxygen. If the tank has lots of tankmates, and even possible amounts of wastes, your dissolved oxygen levels could be low. Add plenty of oxygen and see how the ray reacts.

If this is a consistant thing, it might not be good. Make sure you check your water paramaters often, especially for stability.

Hope that helps!

*Edit: Just noticed you said your pH was low.. It might have crashed due to acids (fish waste) in the water. If your alkalinity is low, your pH will be more susceptible to crashes like this, so you might need a product to 'buffer' your alkalinity and hold it steady. Stability and consistancy is key with the ray, make sure your tap water and tank water match up.. Do more small frequent water changes.

What products can buffer my alkalinity of my water? What is it called exactly? Is it called Water buffer?

bubbles are from my two air bubble wands....

I dont want to scare you, but right before my ray died from an ammonia spike in my tap he was stressed out for about 4 days and then his last 36hrs of life he wsa completly crazy. He floated at the top much like yours but also swam violently and erratically through out the tank even doing back flips and dive bombs. It was very strange and I have never heard anything like that.

I hope you are WRONG!!!

Tested my water today and the ammonia was small, can a spike be measured or predicted? What causes it?

Im doing a little water change right now...

Gr8karma, its possible the ray is just playing. Ive seen rays doing backstrokes, and stick on top of tank covers like a human suction cup. If there seems to be a pattern to it, then i wouldnt worry too much.

hope your right red...thou it seems like shes not interested in food now!

my other thought was that I am using a newly bought novaqua water conditioner, could it be that its no longer good anymore and during the water change the water chems are effecting her? (just another thought i had?)

How much of the water conditioner did you put in? I know if you put more than stated it can make it hard for the fish to breath.

really? never knew that......

This is not good. Ok some rays do this but only for awhile not for long periods. Specially the refusing of food even her favorite food indicates you have a problem. You fed het ansjovis the for the first time. Maybe their was something in their or to much salt in the food. So this is not normal behaviour for a ray. So you have to do something. I would start witha massive water change, so you can be absolutly sure your water is a 100% quality. Does she produce waste? Does it look normal?
Good luck.
Regards
Frank

The only time my ray ever floated on top of the water was when he couldn't breath and was trying to get air from the surface. It your having the same probelm then this is a huge issue. Mine went back down to the bottom after a few minutes when i added a powerhead. Maybe you should try that to get more dissolved oxygen into the water.
