HELP! Very sick 12" red devil!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I don't normally recomend high heat for bacterial infections however since columnaris is highly aerobic and warmer water hold less O2 than cooler try leaving the temp where it is. Also reduce surface agatation this stuff thrives in highly oxaginated water, so dropping the level in your tank is ok as long as the surface agatation isn't increased by doing so.

tom is the man !!!!

This is how he looks now. His skin looks extra flakey. I haven't started treatment yet because I had to stay at the hospital for a bit longer than intended. Hopefully he can still pull through.

Once I drop the water level ill use a sponge filter attached to a powerhead and turn off my air pumps.

I just plugged in my power head because he's gulping for air. How do I balance having enough oxygen for him but not enough for columnaris to thrive?

May drop the temp back to 80. How long ago did you treat him?

Ok lower the temp it will slow the growth of bacteria. Did you do a large water change before adding the meds? Leave the power head on and point it up towards the surface better to have oxygen then to suffocate it, the less stress the better. Do this and let the meds do there thing. You can add additional salt too back to the level you had it before it will help. Do these things and if it makes the next 24 hours it should recover. Leaving the temp up was probibly the wrong way to go (my fault not yours), drop it over the next few hours even down to below 80 if you can.
