Help w/ DIY CO2...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hmmm... after seeing pictures of how this is done, it seems I've done it wrong. I was under the impression that a tube connected to an aerator was to go into the bottle, and another coming out of the bottle going to a diffuser. I guess I'm wrong?

I like the way a bubble wall looks in this tank. If i use it as a diffuser, will it be less effective?

With co2, a bubble is bad. The ultimate goal is to have co2 being put into the tank, but not seeing any bubbles. This means all the co2 is being diffused into the water.

Wellll...To use a bubble wand you would need a large co2 w/regulator and after you got a pretty looking wall of bubbles going you could start over cause all the plants died :D . Ok, so that was the long way around telling you it's not a good idea, it's way to much co2 and you wouldn't beleive the cost at that point.

Use the bubble wand for what it was intended, and feed the co2 thru the limewood difuser, it gives tinier bubbles than anything else at this pressure.

Jello reactors seem to last longer and its reuseable.. as far as diffusing.. you want to break up the bubbles so they are in to water.. if you get bubbles (any size) then they will just float up and go somewhere else so figure out a way to get it broken into the water..

?

In the amateur aquarium world we have two choices bubbles or nothing.

You can also bubble under an inverted dish to hold the co2 in contact with the water longer.

Ok so I mixed up the yeast and sugarwater, and I have two tubes coming from the bottle, and I just place them in the tank, because I wanted the silicon to set. Before I went to bed last night, the water seemed slightly cloudy, but I paid no attention to it. This morning I woke up, and it is extremely cloudy. Any ideas as to what happened? Fish seem fine.

I had been doing Ick treatments with Jungle Ick remover (which IMO is completely worthless, because yesterday was day 7, and I still have ich) but that shouldn't have had any effect on the cloudiness. I'll test params when I get home, and do a w/c.

You either dumped co2, due to too much yeast, or your bb was killed by the ich meds. For ich salt and high temp are best, in a planted tank, the best is to remove the fish, and treat them in a qt tank. I would not have 2 lines coming out of the bottle, you will have too little pressure with a standard mixture of yeast/sugar.

:iagree: .

Have you done any W/C's?
