It's about 6 inches long, so I don't know if a minnow gets that big

Creek chubs are minnows that can reach a foot long :D
That appears to be what you have there.

If you wanna keep it long term, keep in mind they're pretty messy and will devour just about anything.

most def. a creek chud, nice catch

CHUD? Cannibalistic Humanoid Underground Dweller? No, it's definatly a fish of some sort.
It's Semolitus atromaculatus aka creek chub.

Yeah, I know. I just saw the word chud and could not resist. For those not "in the know", C.H.U.D. is a horror movie from the 80's.

I missed that memo, I was a late 80's kid, as in, I was BORN in the late 80's LOL

If that thing has bumplies on it's nose then OMG halleluah!! I've found out the fish of which I am the favorite food!! LOL Those things have been nibbling on my legs fro the last 2 years. I've also seen a fish similar to that, a little bigger, with silvery fins, that have black tips on them. No nose bumpies though....any clue what it is?

I live about 2 hours away from Cardinal (I go to the Detroit area often, my fiance has family there in Ecorse.)

Males get bumps on their heads in the spring. A lot of species have those though, so the fish that keep nibbling on you aren't necessarily creek chubs.

The fish with black fins I dunno, a lot of fish are silvery with black tips on their fins.

bumps on their heads... you could be nibbling on flowerhorns, mbunas, old convicts, goldfish, fathead minnows....
