So Ca
Got my Dat yesterday (Friday) it still hasnt ate. How long does it usually take for them not to be so shy?? His/her tankmates are, 1 wild oscar about the same size, 1 red tiger oscar 1/2 their size and 4 clown loachs. He will swim with the oscars and there is no agression from any of them. I think he is still sketchy w/ me. I've been feeding them frozen bloodworms and the oscars love it as well as the cls. But the dang Dat just sits in his cave, the forzen block of bloodworms went right by him to. I really rather not get feeders yet but maybe I'm going to have to? I read that other dat owners feed them prawn. Is it live prawn or dead? What store can I buy them at, only went to one grocery store today and of course they didn't have any. They did have beef heart that I will start feeding the O's hopefully the dat will like that as well.
Any other suggestions? Thanks, sorry for the long post.

one day might be a little too soon. most fish take at least a couple of days before they're comfortable enough to eat. just give it time, he'll come around.

:iagree:
my day was hard to get off of feeders but I dangled some shrimp with a fishing line and he nailed it......itsa good way to get them switched

Within a week I got my smaller datnoid eating BW.

He had been fed live his entire life. Which was a year or so.

From my exp they are quite easy to get onto food and to get off live food.

wow that's good to hear. i got several dats from wes and the next they they were eating like pigs... lest just say my first 2 thin bars around 3-3.5 inches (also from wes) would eat 20 small feeders at night and the next morning i just see poops and no fish! and my 4 wide bars would get 12-15 mid size feeders in also less than a day. i thinks it's more on their way of adjusting. hopefully i can train them to eat BW or cleaned shrimps which would be less $$$. :naughty:

Try some beef heart too maybe. That is all my wild Dovii will eat he won't even touch feeders anymore :screwy: The blood in the water drives them crazy I think :)
