Help w/ new substrate!

Wow!!! That’s what I’m going for, pretty fish! I like the color of that substrate but definitely want sand!

Not going to use the blasting sand either the more I read about it. PetsMart stuff seems so fine too, guess I’ll do some more researching and order the best stuff I can find!

I switched from gravel to PFS and love how clean it stays. I can turn my wave maker on every other day for 5 min on high and everything on the bottom gets stirred up and sucked away.

However, I have a Green Terror and want to follow the advice of others on here and try something black to bring his colors out more! (Or even something else darker than what I have). Would more food/feces get hung up in gravel vs PFS?

Looking for some specific product recommendations! Black sand? I’m not opposed to gravel if it won’t hold more crud…

I do not want to mix anything in though. I’d like to replace with all black or something else darker in color.

You don’t have to go straight black, you could add some to give it a peppered look and that should help with coloration

Another thing, I keep water at 78. For a GT, would colder help with color better?

78 degrees is fine for a Rivulatus as well as a great many varieties of tropical fish. Concentrate on providing a quality & varied diet.

I feed NLS pellets, Hikari red Vibra bites, and Spirunla flakes.

Decided I really like the PFS so changed the decor and tried to make everything a bit darker and more natural!
