HELP W/RED DEVIL SICK

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You should post water parameters, NH3/NO2/NO3.

Also in this size tank you should not be adding another RD. IMO a RD should be housed in a 75gal tank, and that is solo.

For comparison, I have a 10" Rose Queen alone in a 75gal tank, and I have to do weekly 50% water changes to keep the nitrates below 20ppm.

I would not add any meds until you know what (if anything) is affecting this fish. Water changes never make things worse, so that is the first thing I would be doing. Also, it is never a good idea to add anything to clear up algae. Routine glass cleaning, water changes, limiting light, are the best things to do to control algae.

Try that and see how things progress....

OK, tank is by a window, but moving soon.

Burt:)Today 08:29 PMMilesMedicated Anti-Parasite/Bacteria Food if he's still eating..
will not eat anything but feeders :irked:
heat and salt.. water changes..Today 08:16 PMCavemanIf you have any spare 10 gallons then I would move him there and treat him.
Think it would be OK ???
It is a big fish.very aggressive as well.
which treatment ? combos ?
Today 08:13 PMCavemanHas this fish recently suffered any trauma to the poping eye. If it is pop eye I have always treated with Penicillin. here is a link to something you will want to find at your LFS.

No injuries, look closely looks fine other than bulging.
how do you give penicillin? (i will read link later, kids :nilly: )

Today 08:03 PMCavemanHave you ran any water tests? YESCan you get some pictures of this fish? Sounds like he may have a pop eye. I have lost 2 Trimac Cichlids to this.

hard to see the eye in pics but will try.I will be able to get whole body shots to show the privates sticking out. see what I can do.

The fish is way more aggressive now.
Didn't do anything to it.......
The fish won't let me put my hands in tank at all !
It sees me coming and is waiting just below surface to bite me.:irked:
I caught it pulling plants out and running around tank with the plant in it's mouth. Big well rooted plants ! Grrrrrrrrrrr :irked:
Like a dog,was funny to watch.:)
It has dug a huge whole in gravel.normally just clears it's cave.

Seems distressed but can't put finger on what problem is.

I will test water again and post back.

I tested water again :

nitrate/NO3- 5.0
nitrite/NO2- 0
ph-8.0 normal
Ammo - 0

I used AlgaeFix -poly(oxyethylene(dimethylimimio)ethylene) to treat aglae bloom 3 days ago.
could this have effected bacteria in filters ?
fish tried biting me the whole time I was getting water for test tubes.:nilly:

It does not look like the AlgaeFix affected your cycle in any detrimental way as you have no NH3 or NO2. You must do some quite frequent and decent sized water changes to keep that NO3 that low

Since you mention this heightened aggression, I would bet that this fish is a female and is full of eggs and ready to spawn. Some fish will lay eggs even though there is no male in the tank.

I would just keep those water parameters as good as they already are and continue to monitor the fishes appearance/behavior...

Thx........I do weekly.......when lazy biweekly W/Cs.
It helps that mean *** doesn't share tank and the tank has alot of plants.
I think it is ready to breed too.....BUT won't let smaller males (all I have) in with her.:nilly: :nilly:
I might try again. After I am sure the fish isn't sick.

I am looking for a big male :naughty: Anyone want to part with one ???????

Looks fine to me, active etc...

One suggestion, unless you bred those rosey reds yourself or had them under a long quarantine, I would not feed them to your fish. That is a sure fire way of infecting them with a range of diseases.
