Help Wanted: Aquarist Job at Ceasar's Palace

Miami is VERY high cost of living. When I posted a job requiring the same thing for $8/hr, I got HUNDREDS of applications from people dying to get in. It is not an easy industry to get into, and competition is very high. If you want the job, you're also willing to make the changes to life the lifestyle.

Statistics show that California has the highest cost of living to minimum wage ratio. But well if they're willing to work multiple jobs that's fine and dandy. But that kind of income is not gonna support a person alone. 30000 or so in student loans to get the degree, plus scuba certification for 8/hr is a HUGE sacrifice and you can't deny that. Even for 14 an hr is a hard thing to compensate. That being said yes a lot of degrees don't pay out in income right away; I mean all the power to those willing to do that but it highlights how impractical that field is. Like I said better off in a fishery or fish and games.

$14/hour is way too little for what they require you to have/know. I was making $11/hour in high school when I was 17 making hand made fudge, but I was the only person in the store that knew how to make the candy besides my boss, that was 14 years ago. $14/ hour is good pay depending on what kind of job/duties you need to do/know. For the requirements of this particular job, $14 is too little. But for the cost of living in Vegas, depending on your lifestyle... you might be able to make it or break it. After taxes, you are not even taking home $100/day.

The original poster forgot to use the key word ... "intern". It would be viewed as a stepping stone to something great. That's business BS for low pay exploitation. The readers would better understand the low pay. Some interns don't even get paid. I personally would not and do not work for anyone anymore.

Its a good thing most of you didnt go to school for Marine Biology or Bio, etc. hoping to get into this filed. Those of us who work jobs like this choose to do it because we love it and learn to get by with what me make and make it work. Its a stupid hard field to get into, the pay sucks and what may come as a shock to some of you $14/hr is actually a sweet deal considereing most places will hire in that same position for 8-9.50/hr. I know I don't get paid enough for what I do but I love dong it. I am also more responsible with my money. I chose not to go into debt for my degree - I worked through college to pay for it. My only big debt is buying a house. I learned to work with what I have. Obviously not everyone is the same and may not want to do this or whatever. I know in Florida unless you are with FWC as an officer you are making about 8-13/hour. If you work on the fish farms here its about 8-12/hour. Nothing pays that well.

As for in the field it is the volunteers and interns that tend to work for free doing the scuba diving/scrubbing/cleaning of tanks. The workes are usually doing other stuff, not typically the gen. maintance.

Regardless of what you feel, the $14/hr is a great pay rate for this job....even is this an old thread.

I was thinking the same thing, they are expecting alot for $14 an hour. I wounder what kind of benifits they offer?

The only thing I see is like -Possess a degree in Biology, Chemistry- depending on what level of education they would accept doesn't seem to bad. That's really the only requirement. The other ones is just like possess knowledge about the animals..
