  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
DIY filtration all the way. Im with MonsterMinis and i look forward to seeing what you come up with. I dont use UV or anything just a little labor each day doing water changes and i bought towers from wal mart and filter pads online. No issues in the year its been running and I probably have 100 bucks in mine.

How much room do you have? I have thread on here showing my filter system for my rays will be up dating in a couple of weeks my 8x6x3 pond turns up on Sundayimage.jpg and will be moving my filters over in the next coming weeks

So what i did is used 4-4gallon storage bins and a 27gal at the bottom top 2 are mechanical, im using filter floss and filter pads, the bottom 2 bins i have filled with bio balls and put 2 ammonia preventive pads on top of the bio balls. I have a 75 gallon aquarium im using for an extra water volume I attached a dual overflow box to the 75 gallon and running that to the DIY filter which has a 900gph pump that is going into my 500 gal. Then i attached a tube onto one of the return nozzles that is in my 500 gallon which then runs back into the 75 gal. aquarium. I was thinking about making the 75 into a planted tank, what do you guys think or is there better options i can do with the 75

Nice! I use a mag 9.5 atm for mine but need to either get another one or get something bigger just to get abit more current going I think. tbh I've been amazed how much these diy sumps can handle. I would def look into planting the 75 would help w/ nitrate reduction and denitrification ect. not to mention work as an algae scrubber for the rest so no more scrapeing the main tank. I want to get into some hydroponics stuff utilizing the big pool down the line to grow some basil 'n stuff... just gotta figure out the hows :D or leave some free floating plants for the denitrification help and use the tank as a pup tank?
